SPONSOR A SOCIAL WORKER
The social worker is a key position that partners with the Reeds of Hope manager as well as the Family Bethlehem leadership. Her primary role is family support and reunification; she will be integral in helping move children back into their family homes (or other in-country alternatives) rather than live long-term in a residential home (orphanage).
If families want to care for their children, but are not able to because of poverty, we should do everything we can to access existing community resources to support these families. We need more trained social worker to do immediate, thorough family assessments on all arriving children. Our goal is to bring to light barriers that would prevent family members from taking children home. We are committed to providing family reunification training and support to the social worker and staff. The social worker will continue to work with families, encouraging bonding and attachment between parents and their children and connecting families to resources. She works directly with Family Bethlehem and the manager on the ground to identify children that can not be safely reunited with their family. They will then seek alternative care (primarily family options through the local church).
