The one thread women’s center exists to offer sewing vocational education, high impact business training, mentorship, and the hope of jesus christ to the women and children of Kinshasa, DR Congo
Welcome to the Espoir Women’s Center
Every woman who comes to the center will receive a 12 month sewing vocational education and high-impact business training that includes a 3 month intensive internship at a local boutique, mentorship and discipleship training from our local staff, receive her very own sewing machine and seamstress license upon graduation, and the opportunity to apply for a Seed Grant to get her business up and running.
The one thread project believes in a congo where every woman and child have equal access to education, empowerment for their future, and families to remain together.
Our Story
At the very beginning, The One Thread Project was born out of deep desire to find a different narrative for children in Congo- instead of orphanages, families. We took a step back and asked a bigger question. What were the obstacles that separated mothers and their children? While many of the answers are complex, one is simple. Being able to provide a roof overhead and food for the belly requires access to money, which requires job skills. If we could walk it back to this step, then just maybe we could make an impact. Maybe one child might not become an orphan.
In a region that suffers from crippling rates of unemployment, many young people are unskilled and uneducated. The One Thread project seeks to change this through job and business training. Many women come to the Espoir Women’s Center after being unable to complete high school due to rising school fees. They want to provide for their families, they want to make a better life for themselves, they are eager to learn.
